What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?

The decision to pursue my education as an adult came about because I wanted more for myself and my family than life was currently offering. I needed doors to open that were previously closed for me. Pursuing my education changed my life financially, professionally, and internally. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?

I chose Tiffin University because of its progressive Online Adult Learning Program. At the time I decided to go back to school I had three kids and a husband who had just passed away. I was a single working mother who desired an education that was outside of traditional norms. I needed a program that fit my lifestyle and worked around my schedule.

What has been your experience with the program so far?

Tiffin University’s online program not only offered the flexibility that I needed, but also provided instructors that were in tune with adult learners. Instructors were engaging, caring, and professional. The majority of my online instructors understood that they were teaching working adults, students with busy lives, or students in other states or countries. That awareness enabled them to create class curriculums to meet the needs of non-traditional students.

What keeps you motivated to stay in the program?

My motivation came from the fact that I knew if I didn’t quit, all of my hard work would pay off by receiving my Bachelors of Business Administration, Marketing Degree. I knew Tiffin University “would not” give up on me, so I “couldn’t” give up on myself.

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about going back to school?

I would advise anyone who desires to get a higher education… to just go for it! Don’t wait! Schedule an appointment to sit down with a Tiffin University advisor and discuss the possibilities of your future. Don’t wait! Do it now!

TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?

Ten years ago, I took a huge risk by moving away from Ohio where all of my family and friends were. I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina with three kids. I had a minimum wage job, very little support, and no time to pursue my dreams, so I thought. However, I knew within me that I had more to offer society than what I was contributing. I knew that the time I was putting in and the wage I was getting out was not a fair exchange. I was, for all intents and purposes, struggling and failing in North Carolina. Yet, I was determined to change my circumstances. Though I did not have much time, I made the decision to go back to school at 38 years old. Some years later, I exceeded my expectations and walked across the stage with the Class of 2018 graduates. I now stand tall with a greater sense of pride, I am a better provider for my family, I am an asset to my company, and I owe it all to the education I received at Tiffin University. Thank you, Tiffin University, for being exactly what I needed…when I needed it!
