Tiffin University values our adult students’ employment and education experiences and, whenever possible, we help students transfer that knowledge into college credit.
What you’ve experienced on the job, in the field and in your life can help you earn college credit at TU. Law enforcement professionals who enroll in our online and extended learning criminal justice degree programs can seek credit based on significant demonstrated learning acquired through work, volunteering, military service, travel, participating in workshops, seminars or publications, providing community service, and other life experiences.
Credit can also be awarded based on the completion of the following certification and/or academic programs:
CLEE – Certified Law Enforcement Executive
Students who have completed the Certified Law Enforcement Executive program and meet the admissions criteria for a Criminal Justice degree may be eligible to receive up to nine hours of credit (3 courses) toward their degree. This transfer credit requires you to submit collection of CLEE documentation and/or write a 10- to 12-page paper on an assigned topic related to TU courses.
CLEP – College Level Examination Program
Students may receive credit for either general or subject examinations taken through CLEP. Our Registrar’s Office follows recommendations from the American Council on Education when determining the appropriate amount of transfer credit, based on CLEP results.
FBINA – Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy
Graduates of the FBINA may be able to receive up to 12 credit hours toward masters-level degree programs or up to 30 credits toward an undergraduate degree. A maximum of one-third of the required credit hours for a degree can be transfer credits, and our Registrar’s Office will help determine the best way to utilize your transfer credits.
ODRC – Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections Training Academy
Students who have completed the Corrections Academy Certification may be able to receive up to six credit hours towards a Bachelor of Criminal Justice degree. The credits will be applied to COR110 and COR120. Students eligible for these credits must have completed the Academy and meet the admissions criteria for a degree in criminal justice.
PELC – Police Executive Leadership College
Students who have completed the PELC may be eligible to receive up to six hours of credit (2 courses) toward their degree. Additionally, students wishing to take advantage of this transfer credit will need to submit their collection of PELC documentation and/or write a 10- to 12-page paper on an assigned topic related to TU courses for credit. There is an administrative and processing fee of $100 per course.
STEP – Supervisor Training and Education Program
Students who have completed the STEP Certification may be eligible to receive up to three Tiffin University credits toward our Bachelor of Criminal Justice (BCJ) or Master of Science (MS) (ENF335 for undergraduate or JUS532 for graduate).
