What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?
I am pursuing this degree as an adult because I am naturally curious and committed to continuous growth. I want to deepen my understanding of leadership and enhance the skills needed to better serve others, particularly by helping amplify marginalized voices.
Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?
When exploring doctoral programs, I was looking for a flexible option that understood the realities of working professionals. Tiffin University’s online format, supportive environment, and commitment to developing leaders and researchers made it an excellent fit.
Describe your experience with the program so far.
My experience has been both challenging and rewarding. The coursework has contributed significantly to my personal and professional growth, and I especially appreciate being able to apply what I learn directly to my work. One pleasant surprise was gaining confidence in areas like statistics and quantitative research through the support of faculty and the program’s structured approach. Also, the online learning platform is easy to use and creates a positive user experience for submitting assignments and interacting with peers.
The faculty are exceptional: supportive, approachable, and genuinely invested in student success. Their diverse professional and research backgrounds enrich the learning experience and foster a dynamic academic environment. Equally valuable has been the opportunity to learn alongside my cohort. I have greatly enjoyed gaining new perspectives and witnessing the evolution of their research journeys, which continually inspire and motivate me.
How are you juggling work, life and going back to school? Any tips?
Balancing work, family, and doctoral studies requires planning, flexibility, and an abundance of grace. I find that setting aside dedicated time each week for reading, writing, and coursework helps me stay on track. My advice is to focus on steady progress rather than perfection, and to lean on the support systems available to you, including faculty, peers, family, and family.
What keeps you motivated to stay in the program?
I am motivated by a love of learning and a desire to make a meaningful contribution through my work and research. I also hope to model for my children that you can achieve any goal you put your mind to, but it requires curiosity, determination, and consistent effort.
What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?
I encourage prospective students to connect with faculty and admissions staff to learn more about the programs and opportunities available. Those conversations can provide valuable insights, help address concerns, and clarify which path best aligns with your goals and interests.
TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?
One of the biggest risks I took was entering a doctoral program despite uncertainty about some of the required mathematical coursework. Choosing to move forward challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, and the experience strengthened my skills and my confidence. It reinforced the value of asking for help, embracing growth, and trusting the learning process.
