What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?

I chose to pursue my degree as an adult because I felt that I was unfulfilled in my career path.

Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?

I chose TU because of its reputation, ability to complete the program online, and the 7-week terms.

Describe your experience with the program so far.

TU faculty and staff were great in communicating what to expect and how to navigate the educational portals used in the online program. This alleviated much of the anxieties that come with using new platforms. I found that after the first semester the technology became second nature and if any issues arose I was able to easily access help through professors and the tech team.

Though all interactions were online all of the faculty was easily accessible through a variety of media including email, Moodle, text, phone, and Zoom. Every interaction was pleasant and I never left a conversation feeling as if I wasn’t heard. Having these interactions brought a comradery of not being the only one in this non-conventional educational situation and that there was support from all avenues.

How are you juggling work, life and going back to school? Any tips?

Once you get settled and understand how to fit the weekly assignment models and studying into your schedule it becomes less and less crazy. Having set times to work on assignments is a must. If you are nervous about being able to handle it all just remember to take every class 1 step at a time. Get creative with how and when you study. Though it may feel like too much at first it can be done and is so worth it especially when you get down to the last few classes.

What keeps you motivated to stay in the program?

Feeling a sense of accomplishment and knowing that I did the program not just for myself but to better my daughter’s life helped keep me motivated. Getting the emails about graduation and counting down to those last few classes or terms brings a sense of fulfillment and pride. Additionally, you may be surprised at how many people will give you props and words of encouragement for going back to school which really helps push you to stay motivated and complete the job.

What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?

If not now then when? There is never a perfect time to do anything. Nothing in life can be completely scheduled out and planned for and prolonging the decision may lead to regret or wonder. It took me two years to finally decide to go back and all I can think now is I wish I would have just gone for it when I first started contemplating going back.

TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?

During my Bachelor’s at TU, I took a risk and reached out to Dr. Tiell who leads the Sports Management Program. I was majoring in marketing so I had no interactions prior to emailing her on a whim. This risk of emailing her led to countless opportunities including volunteering with the Browns, attending TeamWork online Sales Training, and becoming the Project and Event Coordinator for the Tiffin University Virtual Sport & Fitness Showcase. Without taking the risk to contact her, I would have never gained these opportunities or made connections with countless individuals in the sports industry as well as, gained incredible knowledge that can be used in my future career path.
