Kaitlyn Boehler, MBA, Marketing

Current occupation: Public Relations Coordinator at Tiffin University

What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?

Today’s job market is very competitive, and I quickly realized I needed to differentiate myself from other candidates. A masters degree would give me a competitive edge since I would have more knowledge to bring to an organization. I was also inspired to enhance my marketing skills since my family opened our own dance studio in 2017. I wanted to learn more on how to market a business and make it successful.

Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?

I would consider myself a legacy – my mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and great aunt all attended TU. They had great experiences and are successful, so I continued the Dragon tradition as an undergrad and grad student. I was also very fortunate to work as a Graduate Assistant at TU in the marketing department. While I earned my degree, I gained more skills and experience to prepare myself for the real-world. Tiffin University has provided me numerous opportunities, and I am so grateful.

What has been your experience with the program so far? What has your experience been with the teaching staff in the program?

I had several wonderful teachers that reassured me that I made the right decision to continue my education. The professors are encouraging and always pushed me past my capabilities. My favorite aspect of the program is that it easily translates to real-world situations. Reflecting on the program, I can apply many of the topics learned to my career.

What keeps you motivated to stay in the program?

Grad school was challenging at times. I had to balance schoolwork and three part-time jobs. What kept me motivated was the outcomes of the hard work. Not only did I produce a high GPA, I also noticed that I was applying my new skills at work.

What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?

Don’t underestimate yourself.

TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?

A great risk I took is when I opened a dance studio with family in 2017. We invested money in something we were unsure if it would sink or float, given that there were two other dance studios in the same town. With our hard work and the marketing skills I learned, the company doubled in size and revenue within a dance season. There is no greater feeling than pride. I am proud to see the business become profitable and be able to follow my passion of dance.

Without risk, there is no gain.
