What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?
I wanted to be able to expand my knowledge in the field of Criminal Justice. I also wanted to be allow myself the ability to advance my career field more.
Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?
I chose Tiffin as I fell in love with the school during my undergrad. I was able to achieve many of my academic goals and wanted to continue that for my Master’s program.
Describe your experience with the program, your cohort and faculty?
I was surprised with how easy I was able to navigate the program while also continuing my day-to-day life. I work full-time as well as help with a non-profit organization. The technology used allowed me to continue the classes seamlessly.
The faculty were beneficial and key to my success. With the more difficult classes and assignments I was able to email all of my professors and they were all eager to help in any way. I genuinely felt they wanted me to succeed in the classes.
How did you juggle work, life, and going back to school? Any tips?
The main reason is I kept a highly detailed planner. I would code all of my classes with different colored highlighters and write out all of my assignments for the term. I would then ensure I wrote down what assignments I was going to work on each day. This would vary based on how many assignments I needed done. I then was able to use time-management skills to ensure my assignments were on time if not early.
What kept you motivated to stay in the program?
I wanted to achieve something that not everyone does. I know many people who do not go to college and if they do they stop after their 4 years. Knowing this motivated me to continue my program. I also knew that the job field out open up for me if I obtained my Masters Degree.
What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?
Make sure you have a support system and have good time-management skills. It’s not the easiest task to go back especially if there was a long break or you have a busy schedule. But with the support of people around you helps tremendously.
TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?
I think that the decision to go back for my Master’s was a risk. I had my first career job out of college and decided to continue with my education. This was an adjustment as I have never had this type of work before. This time of my life allowed me to hone in on my time-management skills as well as organizational skills. I feel that with working full-time and going to school full time has allowed me to grow as a person, student, and employer.
