Current occupation: Client Information Specialist Supervisor
What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?
After completing my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration, I realized how much has changed since I started my degree program. Covid-19 happened and there were changes in society that impacted the law enforcement and the criminal justice career fields. I decided to follow a passion of mine and go back to school again, this time, for a master’s degree in Humanities: Creative Writing.
Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?
I went to Tiffin University for my most recent degree program and I had a great support system between my academic advisor, Elisha Tyree and my instructors that I felt confident I would have the same support once again.
Describe your experience with the program, your cohort and faculty?
My last class before graduation was Elementary Statistics and I was extremely nervous due to the fact that my math skills were not the best. My instructor, Brian Hill for my Elementary Statistics class was very understanding and helpful in finding ways to teach such a difficult topic to various learners. My own past experiences in math had me terrified, but I managed to complete his class with an A and feel confident in my abilities to understand the subject matter. I could not have graduated without his assistance. My academic advisor, Elisha Tyree, managed to help me obtain financial assistance to help me finish paying for school so I could graduate. She went above and beyond as well in helping me reach my goal.
How did you juggle work, life, and going back to school? Any tips?
I took my time with my classes and made sure I was not overwhelmed between home life, work, and school. People are always in such a rush, but that is when we tend to create more stress than we can handle. It is always a good idea, to stop, take a minute and clear your head before pushing forward again.
What kept you motivated to stay in the program?
After completing my BA degree, I decided I wanted a career where I could work at my own pace, be my own boss, and work remotely. This program will allow me to do so and be able to provide for my family as well. The motivation of being able to provide for those you care for is a great push in the right direction.
What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?
It is never too late to do something new!
TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?
I take a risk every day putting my own time and money into another degree that may or may not work in my favor. All I can do is work hard and hope for the best future outcome.
