What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?

I began my college journey when I was eighteen years old, almost a year after graduating from high school. I decided I was going to pursue my dream of becoming an English professor. My Sophomore year I was in a really bad car accident and had to quit school for awhile. I came back in my 20’s and it was the best decision I have ever made! When I was in my Junior year, I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. My inspiration then became becoming someone she could grow up to be proud of and know that no matter what her dream is, she can achieve it.

Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?

Tiffin University was recommended to me by a close friend. He knew I wanted to get a Masters Degree with a concentration in English and Creative Writing and Tiffin has a great Humanities program. After my first semester, I knew Tiffin was right where I belong.

What has been your experience with the program so far?

The teachers at Tiffin are amazing! Anytime I have a question or am unsure if I am completing an assignment correctly, my professors have always been there to lend a helping hand and their response times are very fast! With my major, I have a lot of workshop classes and everyone is so supportive and helpful of each other. We want to see each other succeed and that is an amazing aspect of this program!

TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?

After my car accident, I had to relearn how to walk. It was really rough for me and when I came back to school, the campus I went to at the time had buildings very far apart. There was little time to get between classes and unfortunately I couldn’t walk fast due to my foot. I persevered and even though I had to take a lot of classes online, I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in 2017. We can overcome anything as long as we put our mind and heart in the right direction!

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about going back to school?

My advice would be to go for it! There will always be that doubt and wondering, “Can I really do this or is it to late for me?” We all have these thoughts as adults and I promise you it is never to late! If I had given up after my car accident, I would never be where I am now. I have had so much fun working on my degree and I am so glad I never gave up!
