What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?
When I decided to pursue my master’s degree, it was a decade after I completed my BFA from Bowling Green State University. I was working two jobs at the time and was feeling really burnt out and unhappy with where I was in life. My kids were older and I knew now was the time to go back to school and pursue a career that would be fulfilling and enriching to my life.
Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?
I am from Toledo, Ohio which is about an hour away and I am familiar with Tiffin and have friends who graduated from Tiffin University. They had good experiences there and landed great jobs. I am taking the online graduate courses, but if I ever needed to go to campus, I could.
Describe your experience with the program so far.
I was really nervous at first. I caught on quickly and have maintained a 4.0. I was most surprised by how well I am doing after being out of school for so long. The faculty have all been very nice and supportive. If I have a question, they respond quickly and are very helpful. They set you up for success with how they organize their courses and communication.
How are you juggling work, life and going back to school? Any tips?
I am extremely busy and have to make some sacrifices, like not being as social as I used to be. It is worth it. The benefits of gaining a higher education is enriching. It is important to set a block of time every day to work on your coursework so you don’t fall behind. Once you get into the habit of it, it gets easier.
What keeps you motivated to stay in the program?
I am the kind of person that once I start something, I have to finish it.
What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?
Do it. Education is real wealth.
TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?
I took a risk going back to school. I knew it would be expensive and time-consuming but I knew it was the right thing to do.
