What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?
In December 2023 at the age of 25 years old I went back to school and obtained my high school diploma. As of right now I am here, a college student at Tiffin University (Online) and I could not be any more proud of myself just for getting this far. Now, I look at the future with excitement.
Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?
I honestly chose Tiffin University just because of the way the counselors responded to my emails. Before I even knew what I wanted my major to be they really made me feel welcome. I expressed my concerns and they covered every topic I was worried about.
Describe your experience with the program so far.
Week 2. I finished my first week of college. Haha may not sound like much but I never thought I’d be where I’m at right now. Here’s to Week 1!!! My professors have responded very quickly and are super nice even when I have struggles due to me not being in school for so long.
How are you juggling work, life and going back to school? Any tips?
After Week 1, the most honest thing I can say, is to get better at telling people “No.” My friends and family have had to adjust to me attending college full time and working full time. This first week has been difficult to get used to, but now to be on Week 2, I feel a sense of accomplishment.
What keeps you motivated to stay in the program?
I have siblings that are almost 10 years a part in age. They are teenagers and I realize they are watching me more than ever now.
What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?
Sit and think, research, and visualize what you want your work life to be in the future. I myself have been around HR Managers since I was 18 years old because of my work history in manufacturing. Over time, I did research and visualized everything. That’s how I knew.
TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?
Something personal. Going to college full time and working full time is not allowing me to spend time with my younger siblings, which is a big deal to me. But, I told myself they are teenagers now and if I risk not going to band performances and basketball games and all the other important stuff in their life for just 4 years. Then the person that makes it to graduation will be so much more beneficial to them then I thought I’d ever be. This is for them.
