What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?

I chose my degree as an adult because I want bigger plans for my daughter and my future. I chose my degree because I want to own my own business, and I want knowledge to help me further my career.

Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?

I chose to study at Tiffin University because they have an excellent Human Resource program, and I have lived in Tiffin my entire life. I love the atmosphere and the environment Tiffin University has, and what they have to offer while going to school there and after you graduate.

Describe your experience with the program so far.

Since I have been going to Tiffin University, they have upgraded their systems to make their software user-friendly. Tiffin has included our online textbook included with our online course, making it easier to transition into each class. I love going to classes online at Tiffin.

The interactions I have had with some of my professors will be unforgotten. My daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes while going to school, and every professor was understanding. Not only was I juggling learning this new lifestyle, but I also was working and going to school full-time. Life got crazy for a minute, but I have overcome those hard times. We are two years into my daughter Bayleigh’s diagnosis, and I will graduate in the spring!

How are you juggling work, life and going back to school? Any tips?

Honestly, going to school these past few years has been tough. If someone is nervous to go back to school, I would say, why let your nerves stop you from wanting to create your future? You can easily transition back into school by taking a few online courses at a time. I take four classes a semester to help juggle my life load. Making sure you still leave time for your mental health is important too! Life can get overwhelming, and putting too much on yourself can be overwhelming. Sometimes you need a break. Your finish line will always be there, no matter how late you start in your future.

What keeps you motivated to stay in the program?

I stay motivated because I want a better future for myself. I want to become something of myself, and I want to help people. One day, I want to own my own business. Motivation is what keeps me motivated to keep working towards my dream one day. School can be hard, but knowing what you are working towards is important to get you to your finish line.

What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?

Creating a daily routine and figuring out when your assignments are due is important! Get ahead in your assignments if you can because it will allow you to work on the assignments that your professors allow you to improve your skills on lab assignments. I have been through so much over the past couple of years, that I have asked a few of my professors for an extension. Do not ever be scared to ask for help because every professor is out there to make sure that you are doing your best!

TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?

Taking risks is important! You will always wonder what if you didn’t take the risk. The biggest risk I took was going back to school, wondering if I could juggle it all. Being a single mom, working full-time is never easy. Not only on top of my home finances, now I have to worry about school finances too. I have been going to school for almost five years now to get my bachelor’s. After all these years, I am about to graduate in the spring, and I can look for a better future.
