Tiffin University will launch its second Doctoral program, a Doctor of Criminal Justice (DCJ), beginning fall semester 2025.
The DCJ will be offered in a blended format, with online coursework and required on-campus residencies. The program is designed to be flexible for working professionals, offering the convenience of online learning while also providing opportunities for face-to-face interactions during two three-day, on-campus residencies. Students can choose from specialized tracks in leadership and administration, forensic psychology or teaching criminal justice in higher education, allowing them to tailor their education to specific career aspirations and emerging needs in the criminal justice system. The program culminates in an applied research project that addresses real-world issues in the criminal justice field, instead of a traditional dissertation. This hands-on project allows students to immediately apply their learning to their current workplace or community, ensuring practical, impactful outcomes.

“We are proud to announce the Doctor of Criminal Justice program as Tiffin University’s second doctoral offering, a testament to our growth and dedication to academic excellence,” said Dr. Peter Holbrook, Provost and Chief Operating Officer of Tiffin University. “With this launch, we continue to expand our academic offerings and further strengthen Tiffin University’s reputation as a leader in higher education. This new program represents an opportunity for professionals in the criminal justice field to enhance their knowledge and leadership skills while making a real-world impact.”
“At Tiffin University, our Doctor of Criminal Justice program is designed to meet the evolving needs of criminal justice professionals, offering a unique opportunity to advance their careers while continuing to serve in the field,” said Dr. Lacy Ellis, Dean of the School of Criminal Justice and Social Sciences. “By combining rigorous academic study with practical application, we aim to develop leaders who are ready to address the complex challenges facing the criminal justice system today.”
“The launch of Tiffin University’s Doctor of Criminal Justice program marks a monumental step forward in our commitment to academic excellence and professional advancement,” said Dr. Pete Piraino, Vice Provost for Academics at Tiffin University. “As our second doctoral offering, this program exemplifies our mission to bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world application, empowering working professionals to lead and innovate in the dynamic field of criminal justice. With three tracks within the degree to choose from, this doctoral degree program reflects not only our dedication to serving the needs of today’s criminal justice practitioners but also our vision of shaping tomorrow’s leaders in criminal justice and social sciences.”
