What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?
I believe that personal and professional growth is essential, and I’m always seeking opportunities to challenge myself to improve both in and outside of work. I strive to be a better coworker, a better academic, and a better person, and I can confidently say that throughout my Ph.D. journey, I’ve become better than I was before and continue to grow every day.
Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?
I chose Tiffin University because of its flexibility, and even before I was admitted, I was impressed by how invested and supportive the faculty were from our very first conversations.
Describe your experience with the program so far.
My experience with the Ph.D. program has been incredible. I appreciate the support, encouragement, and the emphasis on individuality that the program fosters. The staff are highly accessible, and I feel truly grateful for that.
I really enjoy interacting with the faculty. We have meaningful conversations through email and Zoom when needed, and they are consistently accessible. I also appreciate the strong support within the cohort. We have a group chat where we encourage one another, share useful insights, and enjoy each other’s company. Attending residencies together is another highlight, where we get to connect, share meals, and build even deeper relationships.
How are you juggling work, life and going back to school? Any tips?
I’ve learned how to balance everything. Is it challenging to juggle work, family, and school? Yes. Is it impossible? No. I’ve even taken breaks from coursework and dissertation work because everyone needs a breather, and this program allows for it. If you need a month off, it’s okay. The program is consistently flexible, and the faculty are very understanding. Each course follows the same structure, so you don’t have to worry about different due dates or deadlines- the consistency makes it much easier to manage.
What keeps you motivated to stay in the program?
I’m motivated to stay in the program because I believe in myself, and that belief is reinforced by my faculty and classmates. Their encouragement is invaluable. The faculty consistently reassures me that I belong here and that I’m capable of completing this journey, which makes a huge difference. I also have an awesome support system at home and work. Feeling so loved and encouraged by the people in my life is critical.
What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?
I would tell any prospective student to go for it. I did, and I’m so glad I took the leap; now I’m working on my dissertation. Never miss an opportunity to learn, grow as an academic, advance in your career, and develop personally. Do it for yourself- you’ll be so proud of how far you’ve come. Becoming a doctor is about so much more than just adding letters to your name- though that part is pretty exciting too. It’s about the growth, knowledge, and transformation you experience along the way.
TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?
When I started this PhD program, I wasn’t sure if it was the right decision for me, my family, or my career. It was honestly intimidating, especially with so many options out there. But I took the leap, and now I can’t wait to be called Doctor. Taking that risk has brought me to the dissertation phase, and while it’s been a scary journey at times, it’s also been incredibly rewarding and beautiful.
