College is a significant investment in your future, and for many students, the cost of tuition is one of the most important factors in the decision-making process. At Tiffin University, we recognize the challenges students face when planning how to pay for their education. Our goal is to offer a range of financial resources and support to help make your degree more affordable and accessible.

Whether you are beginning your academic journey, returning to school to finish a degree you previously started, or pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree, this guide provides a comprehensive overview of how to pay for college and the financial options available to online students at Tiffin University.

How to Pay for College

There are several ways to pay for college, and most students use a combination of funding sources to make their education more affordable. These options may include federal and state aid, institutional scholarships, private grants and other financing strategies.

Common financial aid options include:

  • Federal Student Aid: The U.S. Department of Education provides federal aid such as Pell Grants, Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized Loans, and the Federal Work-Study Program. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine eligibility.
  • State Aid: Depending on where you live, your state may offer grants or scholarships that can be applied to your education.
  • Institutional Scholarships and Grants: Tiffin University offers scholarships based on academic performance, financial need and other criteria. These awards can significantly reduce the total cost of your education.
  • Private Scholarships and Grants: These are awarded by private organizations, community groups and corporations. Students can apply for these independently.
  • Employer Tuition Assistance: Some employers offer tuition reimbursement or assistance programs to support employees pursuing higher education.
  • Military Education Benefits: Active duty military members, veterans, and eligible family members may qualify for military tuition discounts and federal education benefits.

Can You Get Financial Aid for Online Classes?

Yes, online students at Tiffin University are fully eligible to receive financial aid. The same federal and state funding that applies to traditional on-campus programs is also available to students enrolled in online degree programs.

By completing the FAFSA, online students may qualify for federal grants, loans and work-study opportunities. In addition, institutional scholarships, transfer credit evaluations and military tuition benefits are available to help reduce the overall cost of attendance. The Tiffin University financial aid team is available to assist online students throughout the financial aid process.

Ways to Save at TU

At Tiffin University, we offer a wide range of opportunities to help students lower the cost of their education. From transfer credit evaluations to employer discounts, these programs are designed to provide flexibility and financial relief. The following list outlines several ways students can reduce their overall expenses.

Transfer Credits

If you’ve completed college coursework at another institution, we’ll evaluate your transcripts and apply as many credits as possible toward your TU degree. Maximizing transfer credits can shorten the time it takes to graduate and significantly reduce your tuition expenses. With six start dates each year, you can begin when the timing is right for you.

Associate to Bachelor’s Degree Completion

If you already have an associate degree, you may be able to complete your bachelor’s at TU in 60 or fewer credits. We value the work you’ve already done and ensure that your previous credits are applied effectively, so you can move forward without retaking courses.

Credit for Prior Learning

We understand that learning doesn’t only happen in the classroom. If you have relevant work experience, professional training or military service, you may be eligible to earn college credit through our Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) program. This option can reduce the number of courses you need to complete your degree. So far, we’ve awarded more than 1,500 credits and saved students over $800,000 through CPL.

Scholarships and Discounts

TU offers a variety of institutional scholarships and tuition discounts to help lower the overall cost of earning a degree. These are awarded after federal and state financial aid. We encourage you to connect with our financial aid office to explore your options.

Corporate and Community Partnerships

Through partnerships with Ohio businesses and community organizations, we provide tuition discounts to eligible employees and their families. If you’re working at a partner organization, you may qualify for reduced tuition rates while continuing your education. Partner institutions include Speedway, Whirlpool Corporation, Cuyahoga Community College and many others.

Military Discount

Military-affiliated students, including active duty members, veterans, reservists and eligible dependents, receive more than 30% off standard tuition rates. Our 100% online programs are ideal for students who may be deployed or relocated during their studies.

DragonNext Program

Our DragonNext program allows you to begin your education at a partner community college and finish your bachelor’s degree at TU with a discounted tuition rate. This pathway is built for smooth credit transfers and is a cost-effective option for students seeking a four-year degree.

We Make Education Affordable

At TU, our mission is to provide every student with a high-quality education that remains accessible and affordable. We understand that no two students are alike, which is why we offer personalized financial guidance and ongoing support from enrollment through graduation.
