What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?

I wanted to prove, both to myself and my two daughters, that it’s never too late to go back to school and improve your future.

Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?

I chose to study at TU because of the opportunity to study as an online student, the degree program I was looking for, the acceptance of transfer credits, and the proximity to my home. I’m proud of my college journey and look forward to attending graduation, which was made possible by attending TU.

Describe your experience with the program so far.

Attending TU online was initially intimidating. I was very anxious for the learning platform and digital book library; however, it’s all been far easier to navigate than I anticipated. Every professor I’ve had has been incredibly responsive, my academic advisor has been helpful during every step of my program and financial aid has been available for questions every time something new comes up. I’ve been highly impressed with everyone I’ve spoken with at Tiffin.

As an online student, I don’t experience college in the same way as many others. Oftentimes times I send emails, texts, or phone calls when I have questions, rather than stopping in for office hours. Every interaction I’ve had has been helpful and kind. During my time with TU, I’ve had COVID-19 diagnoses and deaths in the family, and everyone has been accommodating and helpful along the way.

How are you juggling work, life and going back to school? Any tips?

Work, school, and family life haven’t always been an easy balance; however, I try to be flexible. I understand that at different times each area of my life will demand more or less of my attention and I try really hard to ensure I’m able to adjust to the need. One thing that has been incredibly helpful for me is the knowledge and understanding that if school becomes too much, I can always take the necessary time away and jump back in when I’m ready.

What keeps you motivated to stay in the program?

My family keeps me motivated! My kids have reminded me how proud they are to watch me accomplish classes. My boyfriend and daughters were the first people I told when I was invited to dual enroll and they were all so proud of my accomplishments. Having these two little girls proud of me means more than almost anything in this life for me. I’m thankful to share my growth and accomplishments with them.

What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?

I would encourage anyone interested to reach out and get information. The first step is always the hardest, but gathering information, talking to faculty and students, and exploring available degree programs are so important when trying to decide if and when you go back to school. I would advise that it’s fulfilling to go back to college and do something for yourself.

TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?

I jumped into college as a full-time, working mother of two kids in the middle of a divorce, and it has given me something to look forward to and keeps me busy when I need the distraction. College hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it!
