What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?

I decided to pursue my degree as an adult once I realized that the career path I was on was limited and there was no more room for advancement or growth. I was looking for a challenge and a purpose when I decided to enroll in my degree program.

Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?

I first took an interest in Tiffin University because of the amazing experiences that several of my colleagues had as alumnae of TU. The short online class terms are perfect for someone like me, a busy mom who works full time.

Describe your experience with the program so far.

The very first day of online classes, I was second-guessing whether I had made the right choice to go back to school. Once I got into a routine it was smooth sailing for the rest of my program. I loved the length of the terms and being able to put a lot of focus into two classes at a time instead of a traditional semester with several classes. I also loved having all of our textbooks available online and accessible anywhere.

Every faculty member I worked with did a fantastic job of delivering the materials and being available for anything I needed. I was surprised to form friendships with classmates despite our classrooms being virtual, but going through the program and having classes with so many of the same students, we found opportunities to connect online with each other.

How are you juggling work, life and going back to school? Any tips?

When I started the BBA program, I was working full time and a full-time mom to a 4-year-old with another on the way. Learning how to manage your time is the ultimate key to success. Make sure that you have dedicated time to study and complete school work and lean on others for help if you have a good support system.

What keeps you motivated to stay in the program?

Being able to advance in a career and earn more money to support my family was the big driver behind completing my program.

What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?

If you have the ambition and desire, go for it! There may be difficult times but the program doesn’t last forever. The knowledge, skills, and abilities you gain through completing your program will help you to develop as a person and a professional. It’s worth it!

TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?

Starting at Tiffin University while I was pregnant was definitely a big risk and part of me was worried that having a newborn would make it too difficult to finish my program, but if anything I think it motivated me more. When I started my degree program, I challenged myself to complete my program with a 4.0 GPA and I did it! Because of my degree, I was able to secure a position as the Director of Human Resources & Administration at Commodore Perry Federal Credit Union, and my education helped prepare me to pass my SHRM-CP exam on the first try. I’ve gained so much confidence in myself during my time completing my degree and I’ve learned that I am capable of doing anything I put my mind to.
