What made you decide to pursue your degree as an adult?

As my children began to grow, I realized I did not have many great accomplishments in my life that I was proud of. I had left the world of education at a young age to become a mother, and it was a choice that was always supposed to be temporary. Now in my 30s, I may be older than some of my classmates, but I don’t think that my age diminishes my eagerness to learn. Every day I get closer and closer to obtaining my degree, and every day is a journey!

Why did you choose to study at Tiffin University?

After obtaining my associate’s degree, I knew that I wanted to continue with my education. Initially, my goal was to go back to school to earn my bachelor’s degree in contemporary justice. I sought out Tiffin University and it seemed like a perfect fit. Being a busy stay-at-home mom, I needed a program that I could access at home. After speaking to the staff regarding my short and long-term goals, I decided to change course and pursue my master’s degree in criminal behavior by enrolling in the dual enrollment program. Without the support of my advisor and professors, I likely never would have tried to reach so far.

Describe your experience with the program so far.

The online program has worked wonders for me, thanks to the ability to manage your own schedule. I recently completed the bachelor’s program and am now finishing my courses for my MS in criminal justice. The technology is easy to use, and as long as you possess basic time management skills, it is a great option for anyone looking to obtain a degree.

Describe your interactions with your cohort and faculty?

The faculty has always been involved and accommodating during my time here. Professors can answer questions via email or phone if you need them, and do not hesitate to help.

How are you juggling work, life, and going back to school? Any tips?

My advice to anyone who has a full plate is to delegate your time wisely. Carve out time for school daily, so that you do not fall behind. Give yourself timelines to accomplish your work, and take it one day at a time.

What keeps you motivated to stay in the program?

My children and my husband are my constant motivators. I want to be both a valuable asset to my family, as well as a positive role model.

What advice would you give to a prospective student who is thinking about going back to school?

There is no time like the present!

TU’s motto is: Without risk there is no gain. Can you tell us about a time when you took a risk and what you gained from it?

Going back to pursue another degree was a risk in my eyes. It did cut into my personal life, but furthering your education and bettering yourself is all about give and take. The benefits will always outweigh the risks.
